Can You Help?
Welcome to the latest addition to our website. This is your space to seek information on images, people etc.
Through this page we will post requests for information, and indeed answers we have had fed back from any requests posted. We hope it provides yet another service from the society to members and non-members alike.
You can contact the editor with your image, question or research request to the editor at: firstname.lastname@example.org
A member of the Society is trying to identify the people in this photo.
Pat Taylor thinks this is Ann Davidson from Unst, her great grandmother. Born in 1854, who married Alexander Campbell. As far as she can find out her parents were Ann Davidson and John Davidson. Her siblings were: Barbra b1860, James b1847, Janet b1849, John b1852, Robina b1856 and Spence b1857.
In the photo would be her 5 children, though there was a sixth John, Spence, Alexina, Elizabeth, Jessie and Annie who was Pat’s grandmother.
Pat is researching her family tree and would be grateful if anyone could help with further information. Ann can be contacted at: email@example.com
Can you help identify these people?
As Harry says “I am hoping some Shetland folk can help identifying these three people. My grandfather John James Jamieson was born on 15th June, 1854 in Clousta. He had a sister Margaret born 1843. Margaret married David Tait in 1880 and they had seven children, three boys and four girls.
A son, James David, emigrated to Australia in 1911. However, descendants are unable to assist with identification. I have always wondered if this photo contains any members of that family.”
Can you help a SFHS member?
I am looking for information/photos of my great grandmother. The family does not have any photos of her and I am interested to hear any stories about her from anybody who knew her. She is Wilhelmina Scott nee Laurenson bn. 31st March, 1880 Meal, Burra.
She married John Scott at Meal church 15th December, 1910. John was a fisherman from Gardenstown.
They lived at 17 Market Street, Lerwick in 1911 and then moved to 59 Burgh Road where they raised five sons. James, John, Alexander, William and Laurence (who died at the age of six).
Wilhelmina, at the time of her death 24th April, 1950, was living at 52 Haldane Burgess Crescent. John Scott died 1st September, 1961 in Lerwick.
I can be contacted by anybody with information on my email address firstname.lastname@example.org or by post: Andrew Scott, 16 Fishpond Close, Denton, Northampton, NN7 1EE
Can you identify the people and the places?
This latest request for information concerns the two images below. The first one straightforwad, can you identify the couple in this wedding picture? The second requires a little bit more, can you tell us where this workshop is and who the two people are, indeed is this in Shetland? The sign above the door reads: James A. White Boot and Shoe Maker, Branch Shop with Repairs Neatly Done and Charges Moderate.
Please email our Coontin Kin editor with any information at: email@example.com or by post to Veghamar, South Whiteness, Shetland ZE2 9LL. Any information recieved will be published either in the journal or here on the website.
